We offer modular solutions for monitoring both active and passive optical networks (PONs). Depending on the technology used (e.g., RM-Fiber for real-time attenuation analysis or OTDR-RTU for high-precision fault localization), our systems detect anomalies quickly, support predictive maintenance, and help to minimize downtime across entire networks.

OTDR-RTU is a compact all-in-one monitoring solution for detecting and geo-locating faults in fiber optic networks.

It features a high-end OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer), an optical switch for 16 or 64 ports and all necessary ­electronical components in a single unit that can be installed in a 19” rack and occupies just 1 HU.

The wavelength of 1650 nm is ideal for continuous monitoring of fiber optic cables (dark fiber or active fiber) as well as for fiber optic sensors such as the CoverSensor for monitoring critical access points (e.g., manholes) or the AquaSensor for humidity intrusion detection.

With a dynamic range of 41 dB, the OTDR-RTU can monitor up to 160 km (uni­directional) or 320 km (bidirectional).

The RM-Fiber module uses a spare optical fiber as a measurement loop which is being measured continuously. The monitoring of a fiber bet­ween two stations is provided by the use of two RM-Fiber modules. One is acting as a transmitter while the other acts as a receiver.

The thresholds for the attenuation values can be programmed with no restriction using an integrated keypad and the basic module’s display. All settings are saved in an internal EEPROM memory to prevent losses.

For the remote alarm system the RM-Fiber module possesses built-in dry output contacts. Additionally it can be connected to a Tx-Bus, a Can-Bus or a telecontrol system via Modbus.

Being specifically designed to detect moisture in splice boxes, splice trays, and other fiber-optic enclosures, the AquaSensor is a simple yet highly effective solution that pinpoints the exact location of the moisture intrusion before it’s too late.

If the hygroscopic tape (1) comes in contact with moisture, it begins to expand longitudinally. The tape wraps over a guide pulley (2) that acts on a spring-loaded plunger (3) and (4). The optical fiber (5) is gently compressed as a result of the tape’s expansion, which creates a measurable change in the fiber’s attenuation that is registered by the active monitoring system. Because it is a purely passive device, the AquaSensor does not require any maintenance, metallic wiring for signal transmission, or any energy supply.
